Dr. Tom Margolis is a fellowship-trained, board-certified female pelvic surgeon/urogynecologist serving the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Margolis draws upon over 30 years of surgical experience and is one of the foremost national experts in minimally invasive gynecology and urogynecology procedures. His specialties include uterine prolapse, urinary incontinence, and fistula repair. Additionally, Dr. Margolis performs laparoscopic Burch procedures, hysterectomies, and other major gynecology and urogynecology surgeries on a weekly basis.
Dr. Margolis completed his residency at the University of Kansas under Dr. Kermit Krantz, co-founder of the gold standard surgery for stress urinary incontinence, the Marshall Marchetti Krantz procedure. He then completed the Pelvic Surgery Fellowship at Emory University under the direction of world-renowned surgeon Dr. Clifford Wheeless.
Dr. Margolis served on the faculty at Northwestern University and later became the Gynecology Division Chief at Stanford University, where he founded the Center for Pelvic Surgery and Urogynecology. He continues to serve as a mentor to both residents and attending gynecologists throughout the Bay Area.
Additionally, Dr. Margolis has served on the teaching faculty at major universities in the U.S. including Emory University in Atlanta, University of Wisconsin - Madison, University of California, Los Angeles as well as internationally in universities in Peru, Ghana and Uganda.
He has trained Pelvic Surgery fellows who have gone on to practice in academic centers across Canada, the US and Africa. He has lectured extensively on urogynecology topics worldwide and has published articles in major peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Margolis has served as consultant surgeon to Bay Area doctors for over ten years and leads annual surgical missions to Africa, training and empowering the next generation of local pelvic surgeons in Uganda.

Dr. Margolis serves as a surgical mentor to colleagues as well as resident physicians. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has held faculty positions at Emory University in Atlanta, Northwestern University in Chicago, Stanford University in Palo Alto and the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He has trained multiple pelvic surgery fellows and continues to train pelvic surgeons internationally. Dr. Margolis is also an active mission surgeon caring for underserved women throughout Africa and South America.
